We are all aware that we are living through a Pandemic of the greatest severity, affecting all sectors of society throughout the world.
I need hardly stress that our first priority is and will remain the health and well-being of all our staff and students, and the wider community. We recognise the part we can play in limiting the spread of the Coronavirus by following the very best practice.
Here at Nelson College we have been and are implementing necessary health and safety measures, as mandated by our Regulator (the Office for Students) and the British Government.
As from 19 March 2020 we have ceased all face-to-face teaching. Arrangements have been put in place for remote learning, which includes a variety of telephone and internet-based technologies, the aim being to facilitate the safe continuation of teaching, learning and assessment whilst the Coronavirus Emergency lasts.
Meetings of College committees and boards are being conducted in a similar manner, the aim being to ensure ‘safe social distancing’ but at the same time continue with the College’s core activities.
Both our campuses (Ilford and Gants Hill) are now closed, but many of our staff are working from home, and our campus phone lines and email addresses continue to remain active.
I want to pay tribute to all our teaching, administrative and support staff, whose combined efforts are making this possible.
We recognise that some of our staff members might find it challenging to work from home, so we have put in place extra support for any staff member who might wish to talk about their mental health in confidence with one of our Designated Mental Health Champions.
As a small provider of higher education we are able to adapt quickly and without fuss to rapidly changing circumstances. I am sure we will rise to this extraordinary challenge.
